Suicidal Ideation Includes:

  • Feeling trapped or hopeless with intolerable emotional pain
  • Preoccupation with violence, dying, or death
  • Mood swings, heightened state of anxiety
  • Changes in routine
  • Abusing substances
  • Depression, panic attacks, impaired concentration
    increased isolation,
    psychomotor agitation
  • Unable to experience pleasurable emotions
  • Expressing regret about being alive or ever having been born

ADDICTION

Addiction – A Brain Disease

  • Compulsion: use of one or more substances

  • Disruption: brain regions responsible for reward, motivation, learning, judgment and memory

  • Damage: body systems, families, relationships, schools, workplaces and neighborhoods

  • Substances: prescription drugs include barbiturates, benzodiazepines and sleep medications, opioid and morphine-based pain relievers, amphetamines and attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) medications

DEPRESSION

  • Mood: anxiety, apathy, general discontent, guilt, hopelessness, loss of interest or pleasure in activities, mood swings, or sadness

  • Behavioral: agitation, excessive crying, irritability, restlessness, or social isolation

  • Sleep: early awakening, excess sleepiness, insomnia, or restless sleep

  • Whole body: excessive hunger, fatigue, or loss of appetite

  • Cognitive: lack of concentration, slowness in activity, or thoughts of suicide
